This is one sharp knife. I have 8 stitches in my left index finger to prove it. That, of course, was my fault and the result of a momentary lack of attention while slicing a loaf of ciabatta bread. But I can say with very personal authority that this knife slices cleanly and almost painlessly. It has a great feel (on the handle end..) and makes quick work of any kind of bread. I highly recommend it.

I needed a better bread knife and chose this one based on a recommendation from America''s Test Kitchen. It has rubber grips and just feels good in your hand. It is very sharp and produces smooth cuts with almost no crumbs. I decided to test the sharpness and control of the knife by slicing bread very thinly. The pictures show the result of a slice of bread about 1/8" thick that you could practically see through. With a little more practice I can probably get it thinner because I think the knife is capable of doing it.

I purchased this knife based on America''s Test Kitchen review, following that I saw it recommended by other sources as well, and finally, the reviews here at Amazon were outstanding. The knife is a solid 5 stars based only on my comparison with other knives I own. The primary purpose I purchased this knife for, slicing crusty homemade bread. After taking out of shipping pkg I washed and started cutting a couple slices off homemade loaf that had been sitting out 2 days, meaning the outer crust was getting pretty hard. On the 2nd cut, I wasn''t paying close attention and cut my index finger. The blade barely touches and it was instant 1/8" deep cut, which happens to be about the depth of the serrated edges. I know this sounds weird but on the first cut and other cuts, it really felt like this blade wanted to dive deep into the loaf with each sawing motion, I mean this in a good way it. I really think this is an outstanding bread cutting knife. Quality of construction for a production made knife seems outstanding, however, I''m taking no chances, this knife lives in a sheath in a draw that I keep no other knives in and is separate from other items, I wash & dry immediately after each use and return to it''s home, I want to use this for a lifetime. This is great for anyone''s kitchen and would be a very nice in-expensive gift. I strongly recommend purchasing

That is, if you''re looking at the knife in profile, with the knife parallel to the floor with the cutting edge down, the lowest point is the rear of the cutting edge just before the handle. This makes it easy for a finger to slip onto the rear of the blade during cleaning. Yes, I cut a finger. Maybe I''m just a klutz? Possibly. But I''m going to replace this knife with one not having the design issue I''ve described.

Also, I''ve found it hard to clean. Cutting dense breads leaves a stubborn film on each side of the cutting edge, that I''ve found difficult to remove. (I wash by hand.)

This knife was selected as the best bread knife on America Test Kitchen and they were not wrong. Don’t let the low price fool you. This knife is razor sharp. I bake all of our bread products so I slice a lot of bread. I made hamburger buns which are very soft and usually challenging to slice when first baked. This knife sliced through them in one swipe and didn’t even make one crumb. The handle is very comfortable and fits my medium sized hand very well. Also, the handle is just a bit offset to keep your knuckles from hitting the cutting board. Yes, I am a knife snob and this is a great one!

I''ve been researching bread knives for my crusty home-baked breads, and was thoroughly disappointed in a previous purchase of a knife from Dalstrong, which, despite its elaborate packaging and rave reviews, turned out to be just as dull as my 30-year-old knife I was replacing. After watching America Test Kitchen''s video of their serrated knife testing, I was stunned to learn that this was their choice - not fancy, but man is it sharp and does it ever cut through bread like a charm. One of the keys, if you watch the video, is wider, fewer teeth which cause each serrated tooth to really exert quite a lot of force. Comes in one of those horrible hard plastic cases like batteries do, but once you open it - watch out! It''s extremely sharp. Just try slicing a thin slice of crusty bread and you''ll immediately see the beauty of this tool.

Reading through other people''s reviews before I bought this knife, I kept seeing pictures of bloody fingers or hands but always paired with 4 or 5 star reviews titled "best knife ever" or "lost a finger but dang it''s a good knife!". I went with it, based on the manufacture''s claim of blade quality, the price, and the high ratings - It has NOT disappointed, and I too joined the proud group of flesh-wound baring owners about 2 weeks after buying it! It was fantastic! Not only did it slice my finger but it was like a surgical incision by a precision scalpel.

But really though - bloody injuries from my own stupidity aside, this thing is a great knife. My wife is on a sourdough bread kick and our old serrated knife was less than pathetic at getting through the iron-hide of sourdough without making a disaster of the soft, bready innards. This thing though... it''s like someone made a katana out of kryptonite and chopped superman into delectable 1/4 inch slices. Yes folks - your bread slices now no longer have to be shaped like people who eat too much bread - thin at the top and twice as wide at the bottom.

Ergonomic handle? Good balance? - Yes...for the most part, I suppose. The feel of it is a bit unwieldy in the hand but it''s the longest knife in my kitchen, so maybe it''s just me. The handle is very grippy so I''m not gonna chop my hand off from slipping or anything and the length of the knife is, well, perfect for bread... I guess because it''s a bread knife.

Anyway, it feels like a good quality kitchen knife from stem to stern. For the 2 months or whatever I''ve had it, I haven''t had any issues - the blade is still razor-sharp and free from rust or other issues and you can''t beat the price for the quality. Just follow the directions by not putting it in the dishwasher as this, apparently, causes issues with the finish of stainless steel and makes the blade not hold an edge as long. This, I guess, goes for all knives in general - something to do with the detergent and the knife banging around as it gets sprayed by the jets or something.

The knife arrived today. This knife is sharp. I know this because the cretin that designed the packaging made it almost impossible to remove safely from the plastic clamshell. It took me a pair of scissors, a paring knife and some minutes to get the job done. I would up with a scratch on the blade and an incision on my thumb, despite great care. I hope to get years of use from it. I called customer service and they advised me that the knife was so packaged to prevent it from moving in transit. I suppose they could have it welded to a sheet of metal as easily. Removal would have been similar.

I''ve even ordered 2 more chef knives for myself and blade guards, as of how much it has impressed me. I cut a full loaf with it just to use it and was smiling while cutting each slice, try different thicknesses and it did it with pleasure. For the price it''s an absolute bargain. I''ve got a £150 chef knife and it''s never cut as nice as this bread knife. I hope the other knives I''ve ordered will stand up to this one.

Being a lover of Dick Spirit knives, I ran off to see what they had to offer. When I saw the price, I went kind of cross-eyed. Several people suggested this one instead. I bake round sourdough loaves regularly, so I need a good long knife. This is 10 inches roughly, which is just what I need. It also has fewer teeth than some and they are pointed. Fewer teeth has been shown to cut bread better. It cuts superbly, both heavy crusts and soft crusts. And the wide blade makes it easy to control. Overall, I am very happy - and I saved myself seventy quid!!!!

I like to make sourdough loaves, these can have quite a thick crust. My old bread Sabatier bread knife would require a lot of physical effort to slice a whole loaf. I decided after reading a number of reviews online to buy the Mercer Culinary Millennia Wide Bread Knife. What a difference, the knife is perfect for slicing bread, especially my sourdough loaves. It makes slicing an entire loaf a treat, it bites nicely into the crusty without undue force, and slices evenly with destroying the crust or the crumb. The knife is well balanced and solidly made, Its steel blade is rigid with very little flex. The rubberised handle is ergonomic and great to hold and grip, although its doesn''t look as fancy as a wooden or resin handle. Overall, Im extremely happy I bought this and wish I had done so earlier. If your looking for a bread knife that cuts through all kinds of breads with ease at a reasonable price, this should be on your shortlist.
